Give donors a proper tax receipt.

Record the donor, amount and your tax ID with the “no goods or services” wording donors need — exported as a branded PDF.

A donation receipt is the acknowledgement a charity gives a donor so they can claim a tax deduction. It records the donor, the amount and date, the organisation’s tax ID, and a statement about whether anything was given in return.

How to create a donation receipt

  1. Add a receipt number, the date received and your tax ID / EIN.
  2. Enter the donor’s name and the donation amount.
  3. Keep or edit the tax-deductible statement in the notes.
  4. Download the branded PDF and send it to your donor.

What a tax receipt should say

Most donors need the organisation’s name and tax ID, the contribution amount and date, and a line stating whether goods or services were provided in exchange (for a pure gift, “no goods or services were provided”). The tool pre-fills standard wording you can adjust.

Note: requirements vary by country and by the size of the gift. Treat the wording as a starting point and confirm the exact language with your accountant or local tax authority (for example, IRS rules in the US).

Frequently asked questions

What is a donation receipt?

It’s a written acknowledgement from a charity to a donor recording the gift, used by the donor to claim a tax deduction.

What information has to be on it?

Typically the organisation’s name and tax ID, the amount and date of the gift, the donor’s name, and a statement about goods or services provided in return.

What does 'no goods or services were provided' mean?

It confirms the donor received nothing of value in exchange, so the full amount may be deductible. The tool includes this wording by default.

Is this official tax advice?

No. The template gives standard wording, but rules vary by country and gift size — confirm the exact requirements with your accountant or tax authority.
